DIY Magnetic Pincushion by Lauren Densley – Creator of DIY FOR DAYS (no longer available)
You’ve probably never seen a pincushion quite like this one. It’s got lumps and wrinkles, but I’ll tell you what.. it’s functional! I have been NEEDING a pincushion for SOO long and I was getting so tired of always spilling my pins all over the floor where my little one plays. So I know what I wanted… I wanted a pincushion that was magnetic so I could basically just throw pins in its direction and it would catch them. BUT I also wanted the “stick-in” kind for my needles that still had thread so the thread didn’t get all tangled with the pins. The result?! This quirky, functional pincushion!
DIY Magnetic Pincushion
Large circular piece of fabric (I used flannel)
Small circular piece of foam board/card board
Hot glue gun
4 strong magnets
Small circular piece of felt
First is to attach the magnets to the small piece of foam board.
Now flip the magnets face down into the centre of the wrong side of your fabric.
Apply hot glue along the edges of the foam board, and press the fabric to it.
Along the edges of the fabric circle, do a wide basting stitch so you can gather it when your done.
Gather the edges to make a little sack and dump your rice in.
To make sure no rice came out, I hot glued a circular piece of felt over the opening on the bottom.
And then I tied a little bow around the top edge with matching Embroidery Floss.
